My journey as an indie author began in 1985 when I decided I wanted to write a novel. I’ve always loved to read and after reading DUNE by Frank Herbert, I started putting pen to paper (well actually it was WordStar on an Apple 2e). It took two long years but in January 1987, I had written my first novel.
It wasn’t very good but I was hooked. Over the years I’ve honed my craft and my taste in fiction moved on from sci-fi and horror to character-based fiction with strong themes. I’m happy to say that in early 2015, my first published novel IT HAPPENED TO US became available (see the BOOKS section for details).
If you enjoy these authors like I do, you should like my novels: Lisa Genova, Jodi Picoult, Richard Paul Evans, Kim Edwards, Nicholas Sparks, Anne Tyler, Alison Pick, Rebecca Coleman, Richard Russo, and Tatiana de Rosnay. They have been and continue to be great influences.
What makes a great story?
Characters. Without memorable characters, a story will fall flat. It doesn’t mean that all characters will be lovable, but they should be memorable in some way. This is what I strive for in my writing. Hopefully I’ve come close.
